New Vision Desktop Management – Article Series

Desktop management is now a critical function of IT services within any organization. Historically, standalone computers and small networks did not require much centralization and management. However, rapid technological advancements, network size growth and the proliferation of the Internet have driven the need for advanced desktop management solutions.

These are the vision statements of a future-focused Client Computing Environment, one where Application Virtualization and Software-as-a-Service concepts come together to manifest these excellent advantages for IS as an organization.


In fact, remote installations of applications, central databases, licensing controls and standardization have become a given in any desktop management deployment. Indeed, escalating user demands for flexibility and the need for greater operational efficiency have driven the need for a new vision in Desktop Management.

Application virtualization and software-as-a-service (SAAS) are the new players in Desktop Management. Performance and control issues of legacy desktop management tools have driven a need for virtualized applications that are delivered on-demand to a client, but executed on the local machine for optimal performance. These demands lead to the generation of a core framework of support processes providing a synergy of human services and supporting applications to enable optimum productivity amongst users in an organization.

The on-demand business needs the flexibility, agility and capability delivered by managed desktops for optimized productivity amidst escalating industrial competition.
