I was expecting to have a quite and relaxing Sunday morning My plans where limited to to mowing the lawn, watch the game and catching up on personal emails.\u00a0\u00a0 Suffice it to say, not everything went according to plan.<\/p>\n

As with a lot of us in the neighborhood, we have raised a raised water drain cap in the back lawn\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 A while back the black cap was nicked by a lawn mower service provider.<\/p>\n

No big deal \u2013 It is small and almost unnoticeable\u2026 A week or so later, I asked \u201cA\u201d (you know who!),\u00a0\u00a0 how to go about fixing this\u00a0 and he said it was easy to replace.\u00a0 Just go to the hardware store, get a new one.\u00a0 It comes off really easy and just replace it.\u00a0 It sounded so easy, I just put it in my to-do (chore) list\u00a0 and have been in the back-burner for a while.\u00a0\u00a0 Will her around when I have more items on the list I said.<\/p>\n

I have cut the grass for about 3 months, and\u00a0 today, I did not raised the mower to the appropriate height in the back and bam! <\/strong>it went\u00a0 (not enough coffee and in a hurry to watch the game). Yikes I said!\u00a0\u00a0 It was 10:30a\u2026<\/p>\n

My first though:\u00a0 If I\u00a0do not fix before wife comes back she will not be happy (have been on the back-of the list for a while already).\u00a0\u00a0 Second though:\u00a0\u00a0 Can this wait until the game is finished?\u00a0\u00a0 Nope \u2013 there is a storm coming at the end of the day, and this needs to be done now\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 Third though (almost simultaneous):\u00a0 remembered what \u201cA\u201d said:\u00a0 \u201c easy enough job\u201d , so no sweat, lets do it..<\/p>\n

I fooled around (on the ground) for 35 minutes trying to \u201cunscrew\u201d\u00a0 the cap (at this point \u201cstupid thing\u201d)\u00a0 \u2026 It did not work, so I started to\u00a0 digg around it.<\/p>\n

At about 6 inches deep, I finally come up with the edge.. Ah! \u2013 I can pull it off!\u00a0 Good\u2026<\/p>\n

Another 10 -15 minutes trying…\u00a0Nope, no can do.\u00a0 The stupid thing does not come off\u2026<\/p>\n

Need help\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n

I decide to take pictures and go to the local ACE hardware store\u2026<\/p>\n

Nothing to fit an 8\u201d pipe is available.\u00a0 Recommendation from the clerk: go into the larger hardware stores in town\u2026\u00a0\u00a0Off \u00a0I go to Home Depot, where I look and ask a couple of folks\u2026 Nothing there either\u2026\u00a0 Off\u00a0 to Lowel\u2019s: NOTHING\u2026<\/p>\n

At this point I am starting to look for alternatives\u2026\u00a0 Maybe a sprinkler box ?\u00a0 Would look nicer than what we had\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 Nothing for 8 inches.\u00a0 They had 7\u201d and a n 11\u201d box only\u2026 (good thing!)<\/p>\n

I come across a gentleman (customer that must have seen my at this point worried face and overheard my interaction with the clerk) that tells me to call McLendon\u2019s\u00a0 in Renton.\u00a0 They have more \u201cconstruction-related\u201d stuff\u00a0 and more likely\u00a0 will carry such a \u201clarge cap\u201d<\/p>\n

After calling them,\u00a0 they confirm they have it! YEAH! — So I drive down to Renton to\u00a0it.<\/p>\n

The plumbing guys (nice guys)\u00a0\u00a0explain to me that some time these do not come off easy, and you have to cut\u00a0 the old one.<\/p>\n

As a side note:\u00a0 Everyone I asked was puzzled by the draining system I had\u2026 (Just saying!).<\/p>\n

At this point (1:30p) I am happy\u2026 I got replacement, and instructions that it is ok to cut the stupid thing\u2026\u00a0 Celebration time\u2026 (It was waiting for me !)<\/p>\n

Drove back home,\u00a0\u00a0 ( Side note: I love this place!\u00a0 Specially on a beautiful day\u2026)<\/p>\n

Cut the old\u00a0 cap (\u201cthing\u201d )\u00a0\u00a0 and placed the new one in..<\/p>\n

It was 2:45p\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Crisis solved. Feeling accomplished The game was over (we lost )<\/p>\n

Hope this helps save you some time in case, like me,\u00a0 you run over the drain pipe cap with your lawnmower\u2026\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I am sure it happens to anyone!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Next time I am in Renton, I will swing by McLendon Hardware Store , and buy a couple more caps \u2013 just in case\u2026<\/p>\n
