About a year ago, I wrote a post “Bitcasa – I Am All In”<\/a> \u00a0recommending a file storage provider called Bitcasa. \u00a0\u00a0I loved the idea of an infinite USB drive on the cloud…<\/p>\n

Must inform, \u00a0 that I can no longer recommend this service, as it is no longer\u00a0the same as the original Bitcasa value proposition. \u00a0\u00a0 I really gave the whole\u00a0thing a chance, as I believed in the product and service…<\/p>\n

After their last few announcements (see\u00a0TechCrunch: Bitcasa Ends Unlimited Storage<\/a>, The NextWeb: Bitcasa<\/a>, and Bitcasa Blog: Upgrade<\/a>) , \u00a0I find myself disappointed, betrayed, and having to look for another solution.<\/p>\n

From my point of view, it is not an issue with the technology although, as with every start up trying to build something new, it had some small shortcoming. \u00a0 \u00a0I am disappointing (and frankly \u00a0a bit mad)\u00a0at the way Bitcasa has handle their communications and treated their existing user-base over the past year. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0They have surely lost their way…<\/p>\n

Based on the new pricing, and the way they have treated the existing paying customers, I see no reason to keep or recommend Bitcasa at all now.<\/p>\n

What am I to do next? <\/strong><\/p>\n

For now, I will go back to local NAS storage and a combination of Amazon S3, DropBox and Office 365 (which now has unlimited storage!!) all of\u00a0\u00a0which offer not only unlimited plans, cheaper than Bitcasa, but also more strategic – long term focused approach to keeping customer.<\/p>\n

Part of leaving on the edge of technology…<\/p>\n
