{"id":2409,"date":"2015-03-08T21:04:45","date_gmt":"2015-03-08T21:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/?p=2409"},"modified":"2015-03-10T21:10:08","modified_gmt":"2015-03-10T21:10:08","slug":"windows-7-end-of-mainstream-support-implications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/windows-7-end-of-mainstream-support-implications\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows 7 End of Mainstream Support Implications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been asked a couple of times about end of Mainstream support for Windows 7<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regarding Windows 7:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">January 12, 2015 &#8211; Microsoft will stop mainstream support for Windows 7<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">January 14, 2020 &#8211; Windows 7 extended support ends<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/lifecycle\/search\/default.aspx?alpha=windows+7%20\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/lifecycle\/search\/default.aspx?alpha=windows+7 <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What does end of mainstream support mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">You still get the monthly updates and fixes. You just can&#8217;t call Microsoft for free support anymore. It also means Windows 7 won&#8217;t receive any new features. All new features go to Windows 8.1 and 10.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For enterprise users, it&#8217;s business as usual. Microsoft service and support contracts don&#8217;t change.
