{"id":29100,"date":"2021-03-18T14:51:10","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T21:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/moderneuc.com\/?p=29100"},"modified":"2026-02-18T13:02:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T20:02:20","slug":"news-you-can-use-march-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/news-you-can-use-march-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"News You can Use: March 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This newsletter contains a few items of interest that have caught my eye in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/about\/\">Modern EUC<\/a>&nbsp;and Workforce Transformation space in the last week or so.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ModernEUC-InfoBits20210318.pdf\">Prefer to get\/view the PDF version<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ModernEUC-InfoBits20210318.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This month\u2019s highlighted items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>At least 30,000 organizations across the United States \u2014 including a significant number of small businesses, towns, cities and local governments \u2013 have reported hacks.&nbsp; The hack is from a&nbsp; previously unidentified Chinese hacking crew it dubbed \u201cHafnium\u201d&nbsp; and it affect mostly on-prem Exchange environment.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Although patches have been applied, many organizations do not know if they have been hacked.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/on-the-issues\/2021\/03\/02\/new-nation-state-cyberattacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More info here<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As mentioned in previous newsletter, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge are no longer &nbsp;supported by Microsoft.&nbsp;&nbsp; As some of you pointed out, after 20 years of service&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/chrome\/saying-goodbye-flash-chrome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adobe ended Flash support on December 31. 2020<\/a>&nbsp;as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This has been known for a long time, but for some organizations this has caused challenges, as it actually stopped working on January 2021 by blocking content.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Microsoft\u2019s Windows 10 security patch from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/kb4535680-security-update-for-secure-boot-dbx-january-12-2021-f08c6b00-a850-e595-6147-d0c32ead81e2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">January 12, 2021<\/a>&nbsp;included a Secure Boot update that triggered a Bitlocker key recovery leaving causing many end-users to call their help desks, which in many cases were not prepared to handle incident and volume.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/betanews.com\/2021\/02\/16\/kb4535680-update-bitlocker-problems-windows-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More info here<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/microsoft-365\/blog\/2021\/02\/18\/upcoming-commercial-preview-of-microsoft-office-ltsc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft announced<\/a>&nbsp;two new versions of Office: Office 2021 and Microsoft Office LTSC &#8211;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;The interesting part of this announcement is, the acknowledgement of Microsoft that many business customers still have use cases and specific scenarios that prevent them from moving to cloud-ready Enterprise 365 Apps (formerly known as Office 365)&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;More on this on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ModernEUC blog post<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Using Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) still? \u00a0Moving (or moved) to Modern Device Management?\u00a0 \u00a0You should considered using Windows Update for Business (WUfB) instead.\u00a0\u00a0 Many options and capabilities made for cloud based management\u00a0 check out\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/wsus-or-wufb\/\" target=\"_blank\">this blog post for more<\/a><\/li><li><\/li><li>Although shipping fully configured to the end-user is not a new thing, we are pretty excited at work as we launched an evolution of our existing to help customers who have adopted modern device management \u00a0tools, deploy device faster and already configured.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new service is called\u00a0<strong>Dell Connected Provisioning<\/strong>\u00a0and can be used with Microsoft Intune and VMware Workspace One Unified Endpoint Management (UEM ) platforms.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<ul><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/infocus.delltechnologies.com\/colin_sainsbury\/connected-provisioning-making-zero-it-touch-provisioning-a-breeze\/\" target=\"_blank\">Connected Provisioning: Making Zero IT Touch Provisioning A Breeze<\/a><\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.delltechnologies.com\/en-us\/services\/connected-provisioning.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Dell\u2019s Connected Provisioning page for more info<\/a><br><br><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/virtual-desktop\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/virtual-desktop\/\" target=\"_blank\">Windows Virtual Desktop<\/a> \u00a0continues to evolve and is becoming much more accepted as a virtual desktop environment for organizations large and small.\u00a0\u00a0 Many have been using it as the best alternative (the only one supported by Microsoft) \u00a0to keep running Windows 7 legacy systems.\u00a0\u00a0 Lots more \u00a0on this on this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/\">Modern EUC Blog post<\/a><br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dell Technologies End-User Education Services helping with Microsoft Teams Adoption<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft Teams is the hub for teamwork within Office 365.
