But that\u2019s nothing compared to the 59% drop in the in the 12 to 17-year-old age bracket.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Source: ComScore\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.comscore.com\/Press_Events\/Presentations_Whitepapers\/2011\/2010_US_Digital_Year_in_Review\">2010 U.S. Digital Year in Review<\/a>\u00a0 via\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.dice.com\/2011\/05\/12\/is-e-mail-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Is E-Mail Dead by Don Wilmott<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is not a surprise per say, but an evolution of communications perhaps is.<\/p>\n<p>Other interesting bits of information that have recently come to surface follow:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/1660619\/facebook-coo-sheryl-sandberg-on-the-end-of-e-mail-branding-in-social-networks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook COO Shery Sandberg, only 11% of teens email daily<\/a>, a statistic she sees as a sign of the coming transition to SMS and social networks.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.comscore.com\/Press_Events\/Press_Releases\/2011\/1\/Web-based_Email_Shows_Signs_of_Decline_in_the_U.S._While_Mobile_Email_Usage_on_the_Rise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ComScore<\/a> reports that while email usage has decreased in 12-17 year olds, it has increase by 28% and 22% in the age segments of 65+ and 55-64 respectively.<\/li>\n<li>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140208201906\/http:\/\/pewinternet.org:80\/Static-Pages\/Data-Tools\/Get-the-Latest-Statistics\/Latest-Research.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pew Internet Report<\/a>, email remains the number one online activity, with 94% of online people using email.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.radicati.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Email-Statistics-Report-2010-2014-Executive-Summary2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radicati Research<\/a>\u00a0reports that corporate end users send and receive an average of 110 email messages per day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First some astonishing statistics: (Source:\u00a0PingDom: Internet\u00a02010\u00a0\u00a0in numbers) 107 trillion\u00a0\u2013 The number of emails sent on the Internet in 2010. 294 billion\u00a0\u2013 Average number of email messages per day. 1.88 billion\u00a0\u2013 The number of email users worldwide. 89.1%\u00a0\u2013 The share of emails that were spam.
