They help me gather insights and polish content\u2014so you get the best, most up-to-date information possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A familiar question echoing around dinner tables, group chats, and family gatherings\u2014especially from the younger generation these days: &#8220;Should I go into software development?&#8221; It&#8217;s a fair question, and it deserves an honest answer, not a sugar-coated one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what my general answer is: Yes, software development can still be a rewarding career, but it\u2019s changing faster than almost any profession out there. If you\u2019re considering this path, you need to go in with your eyes wide open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-landscape-has-shiftedfast\">The Landscape Has Shifted\u2014Fast<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A decade ago, coding was a rarefied skill. Today, the gap between those who can code and those who can\u2019t has shrunk dramatically.<br>AI tools and automation platforms like ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and no-code services have fundamentally changed what it means to \u201cbecome a developer.\u201d  Tasks that used to take hours are done in minutes; code that took weeks to learn now appears instantly via prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is this bad news? Not really\u2014it just means routine coding is being automated at lightning speed. The mechanical parts of programming are being handled by machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-premium-pay-era-is-ending\">The Premium Pay Era Is Ending<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s address the elephant in the room: <strong>Software development no longer guarantees premium salaries for routine work anymore.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone can spin up a basic app using no-code tools (like Cursor, Bubble or Webflow) or any AI chatbot \/ assistants in under an hour. The skill of simply \u201cwriting code\u201d is no longer scarce, so entry-level wages reflect that. These tools are serious\u2014they\u2019re building real, functioning products. Just recently, a friend with no technical background built a working prototype for their business in an afternoon. He was doing all of the work, I was just there providing guidance. Frankly, it was impressive!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-still-sets-developers-apart\">What Still Sets Developers Apart<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But building a demo is very different from keeping a complex system running for thousands of real users.<br>This is where the profession has split in two:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th> <\/th><th>High-Value Tier<\/th><th>Routine Implementation Tier<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>What they do<\/td><td>Orchestrate AI agents, automation, and complex systems<\/td><td>Write and debug code for standard features<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Skills needed<\/td><td>System design, integration, business judgment, orchestration<\/td><td>Memorization, syntax, standard patterns<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Pay\/Outlook<\/td><td>High demand, premium pay (but judged on orchestration\/business results)<\/td><td>Shrinking, increasingly automated, lower pay<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Orchestration<\/strong> means not just coding, but managing how different tools, AI models, people, and platforms work together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>System design<\/strong> is about making apps secure, reliable, and scalable\u2014tasks still far beyond what AI or automation can do solo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-really-matters-business-problem-solving\">What Really Matters: Business Problem-Solving<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s never been about the syntax. The value was always in solving real problems for real people.<br>Today, the most valuable developers ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Should we build this, or is there already a solution?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If we build, what\u2019s the fastest way to test if it solves the business problem?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can we use AI tools or no-code platforms to speed up development and focus on what matters?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can frame and solve the business need\u2014sometimes by building, sometimes by integrating, sometimes by advising against building\u2014you\u2019ll thrive. If your focus is just on writing code, the field will feel much tougher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"orchestration-not-just-execution\">Orchestration, Not Just Execution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what separates those who advance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Can you manage multiple tools, AI agents, APIs, and platforms working together?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can you keep systems running when real usage introduces edge cases and bugs?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can you make smart tradeoffs between building vs. buying, speed vs. reliability, and custom vs. off-the-shelf?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is your app and integration components secure?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Technical execution still matters\u2014but business-focused orchestration is where opportunity and pay have shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"you-can-try-the-fieldrisk-free\">You Can Try the Field\u2014Risk Free<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news: testing a software or no-code career has never been cheaper or more accessible.<br>You can start learning and building with free resources and modern AI assistants right now, then decide if you love moving from \u201cmy code runs\u201d to \u201cthis app works reliably for users.\u201d and there are many options! Foundational large language models (LLMs) excel at producing quality code snippets, functions, and even complex program structures. Leading companies have integrated expanded coding-related features around these AI models into their public chatbot offerings, making code generation, debugging, and assistance more accessible as core parts of their platforms. You must have an idea for an app, to, process or <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>First 1-2 months:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Listen to as many YouTube Videos as you can or enroll of one of many free courses (there are MANY options for both!)    T<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Next 1-2 months:<\/strong> \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Build something that matters to you. Quickly prototype with AI or no-code; then upgrade it (add custom features, handle errors, improve reliability).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Choose a single path and build small projects. Also try at least one no-code tool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check-in:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are you excited to tackle tougher problems?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you enjoy moving projects from \u201cjust works\u201d to \u201cworks at scale, for real people\u201d?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you enjoy learning about business needs, not just tech specs?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you like orchestrating tools and figuring out what\u2019s worth building?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Did you completed your objective<\/em>?   This is a BIG ONE!   <\/strong> grade YOURSELF! and Be hones!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If yes, you\u2019re on the right path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"human-skills-matter-more-than-ever\">Human Skills Matter More Than Ever<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With AI handling grunt work, what sets the best apart?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Business acumen:<\/strong> Understanding what solves problems for users or businesses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Communication:<\/strong> Explaining choices to non-technical people and translating needs into technical requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Systems thinking:<\/strong> Seeing the big picture (across many platforms)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Orchestration:<\/strong> Managing the interplay of tools, APIs, AI models<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Good judgment:<\/strong> Deciding when to use no-code, buy, or build; balancing speed, quality, and cost<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Production experience:<\/strong> Keeping apps running reliably as they grow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These skills can\u2019t (yet!) be automated\u2014and they\u2019re not going away.  Having said this, before you commit, I would recommend you ask yourself you\u2019re drawn by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The urge to solve problems or build useful things\u2014great.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The chance to orchestrate and connect different systems\u2014even better.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Just the income, or the \u201cease\u201d of AI-assisted coding\u2014be wary. Premium pay now goes to orchestration, judgment, and real-world problem-solving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you discover the day-to-day work doesn\u2019t excite you, many adjacent tech roles (product management, data analysis, UX, technical writing, sysadmin, business analysis) also need adaptable, tech-savvy people and increasingly reward those comfortable with no-code and AI tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-bottom-line\">Net-Net<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You are the only one that knows YOU.   Ultimately it is your decision, but also keep in mind that for many of us, we started with something and are doing something completely different &#8211; You have choices, and you can make not only adjustments, but significant changes, along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nobody knows exactly what software jobs will look like in 5\u201310 years. But the direction is clear: more complexity, faster change, and a rising bar for what counts as valuable. The \u201cknowing how to code\u201d advantage fades fast; the \u201cknowing how to orchestrate, solve problems, and deliver value\u201d advantage will remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Yes, in 2025, almost anyone can launch a prototype in half an hour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But moving an idea to a robust, production-ready system dealing with real users and business demands? That\u2019s still deeply human work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The best advice: try the journey yourself using the free tools and resources. Build, learn, connect ideas.  If navigating constant change and orchestrating new technologies sounds tiring, this field may frustrate you. If it sounds exhilarating\u2014even as the bar rises\u2014you\u2019re entering software work at the perfect moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let your curiosity (and your effort) give you the answer.
