But one capability many users overlook is <strong>email sending<\/strong> \u2014 and it&#8217;s surprisingly easy to set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This guide walks you through enabling Gmail-based email sending in Agent Zero, so your agent can send you notifications, birthday reminders, reports, or any email you ask it to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also see my other articles (tutorials, resources, Tips) on <a href=\"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/tag\/agent-zero\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"1026\">Agent Zero here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What You&#8217;ll Need<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A running instance of Agent Zero<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Gmail account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 minutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Enable 2-Step Verification on Your Google Account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you can create an App Password, Google requires <strong>2-Step Verification<\/strong> to be active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/myaccount.google.com\">myaccount.google.com<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Security<\/strong> in the left sidebar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <em>&#8220;How you sign in to Google&#8221;<\/em>, click <strong>2-Step Verification<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow the setup steps if it&#8217;s not already enabled<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Create a Gmail App Password<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An App Password is a special 16-character password that allows external apps to send email on your behalf \u2014 without exposing your real Gmail password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go back to <strong>Security<\/strong> in your Google Account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>2-Step Verification<\/strong> again<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll to the bottom and click <strong>App passwords<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <em>App name<\/em> field, type something like <code>Agent Zero<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Create<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Google will display a <strong>16-character password<\/strong> \u2014 copy it immediately!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f You won&#8217;t be able to see this password again after closing the dialog. Save it somewhere safe.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Your app password will look something like this: <code>abcd efgh ijkl mnop<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Add Your Credentials to Agent Zero<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you need to store your Gmail address and App Password securely in Agent Zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the Agent Zero web UI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>\u2699\ufe0f Settings<\/strong> icon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to <strong>External Services<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll to the <strong>Secrets Management<\/strong> section<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add your credentials in <code>KEY=VALUE<\/code> format, one per line:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>GMAIL_ADDRESS=yourname@gmail.com\nGMAIL_APP_PASSWORD=abcd efgh ijkl mnop <\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Secrets added here are <strong>globally available<\/strong> \u2014 they work across all chats and projects in Agent Zero. <br>Each project can also have its own secrets file at <code>usr\/projects\/&lt;project-name&gt;\/.a0proj\/secrets.env<\/code> that can override global ones.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Test It!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now just ask Agent Zero to send you a test email. Type something like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Send me a test email to confirm email is working.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Agent Zero will write and execute a Python script using <code>smtplib<\/code> to connect to Gmail&#8217;s SMTP server and send the email. If everything is configured correctly, you&#8217;ll see a success message \u2014 and the email will arrive in your inbox within seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How It Works Under the Hood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Agent Zero uses Python&#8217;s built-in <code>smtplib<\/code> library to connect to Gmail&#8217;s SMTP server over SSL (port 465).
