 {"id":82374,"date":"2009-05-08T12:29:13","date_gmt":"2009-05-08T19:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/infraops.wordpress.com\/?p=168"},"modified":"2022-09-26T11:44:26","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T18:44:26","slug":"mms2009-few-thoughts-and-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jorgep.com\/blog\/mms2009-few-thoughts-and-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"MMS2009 &#8211; Few Thoughts and Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As always, MMS 2009 is not only a technical conference with lots of good content and &#8220;what&#8217;s new&#8221;\u00a0 on the Microsoft system management tools sets but also a place to catch up with old friends, rekindle some relationships, and make new ones.\u00a0\u00a0 The business networking that goes on is &#8211; I think &#8211; highly underestimated.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thank you all (you know who you are) for making it a very successful and fruitful conference once again! &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>But before I\u00a0go to far from this blog&#8217;s \u00a0topic, a couple of things that caught my attention:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The acknowledgement (finally) by Microsoft that management needs to be\u00a0based on\u00a0\u00a0a user-centric (vs Device-centric) model &#8212;\u00a0\u00a0 We have been supporting the notion that regardless of the device, applications and data need to follow the users, and stop the\u00a0device dependency model &#8212; We&#8217;ve engaged in many good conversations over the years on this topic with clients, vendors and colleagues.\u00a0\u00a0 This is a paradigm shift is not an overnight change for organizations.\u00a0 It is truly\u00a0uplifting to see Microsoft\u00a0 actually lining up their management tools towards this goal &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 (Take a look at <a title=\"Managing Clients in a User-Centered World\" href=\"http:\/\/tr.im\/kRbD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMS2009 Day 2 Keynote<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211; fast forward to minute 21 or 22)\n<ul>\n<li><em>[ Side note: A few years back Microsoft&#8217;s Ray Ozzie spoke at an event \u00a0and he said something like:\u00a0\u00a0 &#8220;&#8230; the definition of the desktop has changed.\u00a0\u00a0 To a user, their desktop is wherever he gets his data and applications, regardless of the device\u00a0he\u00a0uses..&#8221; \u00a0\u00a0 It has taken a few years, but we are getting there.\u00a0\u00a0] <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Everything is moving to the Cloud &#8211; Announcement of System Center Online! &#8211;\u00a0 (again we are finally glad to see it our of\u00a0 in the open !)\u00a0 Hear hear! &#8212; This tool ROCKS!!!!!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>Management of client devices over the Internet<\/li>\n<li>Application Delivery \/ Patch Management from the we<\/li>\n<li><em>[ Side note: System Center futures:For those of you that remember SoftGrids&#8217; ZeroTouch application\u00a0 &#8211; Its alive!\u00a0 It \u00a0resurfaced! and it looks far better) ]<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Kudos to Danny Kim and his team at <a title=\"FullArmor\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fullarmor.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FullArmor<\/a>\u00a0 for the work they have been doing with the <a title=\"Windows Azure Platform\" href=\"http:\/\/www.azure.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Windows Azure <\/a>platform.\u00a0\u00a0Ahead of its time, and where we are heading for sure.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Their sample case study and work with the\u00a0Education Ministry in Ethiopia was an eye opener for many of us at his presentation.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What a great use of technology\u00a0!\u00a0I wish I can point every one to their recorded presentation. Unfortunately it is not available &#8212;\u00a0\u00a0 He mentioned in his presentation that they have build the &#8220;iTunes of Applications&#8221;\u00a0 &#8212;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0Other items included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Major improvements to\u00a0MDT\u00a0 coming up &#8211; MDT 2010\u00a0\u00a0in beta now.\u00a0\u00a0 Must get up to speed on this.<br \/>\n<em>[ Side note:\u00a0\u00a0 MDT2010 is dropping support for SMS 2003 ]<\/em><\/li>\n<li>MED-V 1.0\u00a0 released (I think) as part of MDOP\u00a0: Currently positioned as a\u00a0point solution to solve application compatibility issues moving forward.\u00a0\u00a0 In my opinion, this purchased, has not yet\u00a0fully\u00a0come out of its shell and\u00a0v1.0 is\u00a0really a slim view of\u00a0its true potential &#8212;\u00a0\u00a0 Great first step, but expect much more\u00a0in the future.<br \/>\n<em>[ Side note:\u00a0 Host can only be 32-bit (Vista or XP)\u00a0 64bit is planned.]<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Many improvements to MAP Toolkit, especially around virtualizaiton.<\/li>\n<li>Windows 7 is solid and it rocks!
