This one\u00a0will\u00a0\u00a0change that trend a bit, as what we heard and saw is &#8211; in our view &#8211; significant\u00a0 announcement from Google.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, during the keynote on day 2of\u00a0 the Google I\/O Conference\u00a0 , Google demonstrated (literally) the vision they are heading towards, and they have called it \u2013 very appropriately \u2013 Google Wave.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It has been a\u00a0 long time \u2013 since Application Virtualizaton (SoftGrid back in 2003 \/2004)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 since we\u00a0 have been so excited about how can we use technology to truly help the way we interact and communicate.<\/p>\n<p>Google&#8217;s Wave product demonstration was impresive, and in our opinion, represents a significant leadership leap in the space of collaboration and communication technology.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 [\u00a0It is not publically available yet, but they talked about a release later this year\u00a0 ]<\/p>\n<p>By the buzz around the web \u2013\u00a0we\u00a0are not the only one that is as excited about this\u2026\u00a0 Lots of tweets came through overnight and all day Friday.\u00a0\u00a0 Just to\u00a0mention a few sources you can read more about this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From my teammates at\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/infraops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">InfraOps<\/a>:<br \/>\n<em>Check this out <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/wave.google.com\/\"><em>http:\/\/wave.google.com\/<\/em><\/a><em> \u2013 I predict this will either revolutionize email\/communications or spawn a host of wannabes!; \u2026<\/em>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090822043833\/http:\/\/www.joewilcox.com:80\/2009\/05\/will-google-wave-be-microsofts-tsunami\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Wilcox\u2019 Blog: Will Google Wave be Microsoft\u2019s Tsunami? <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunch.com\/2009\/05\/28\/google-wave-drips-with-ambition-can-it-fulfill-googles-grand-web-vision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Techcrunch\u2019s Blog: A new Communication Platform<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2009\/05\/28\/wave-googles-take-on-the-future-of-communication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VentureBeat: Google\u2019s take on the future of Communication<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am sure we will be hearing about this for many weeks \/ months ahead &#8211;\u00a0 I<\/p>\n<p>A must see video of the presentation is at <a href=\"http:\/\/wave.google.com\/\">http:\/\/wave.google.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A sidebar worth mentioning:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Microsoft&#8217;s Groove product &#8211; which came with the acquisition of Groove Networks in 2005 and was the brainchild of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ray_Ozzie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ray Ozzie<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211; now Microsoft&#8217;s Chief Strategy Officer &#8211; had much of the same concepts and ideas (when we used it in our workgroup &#8211; we found it slow and with some significant limitatons)\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Early this month\u00a0 Microsoft announced that the next version of Groove was getting a new name and it will be folded into the SharePoint product family. The successor to Microsoft Office Groove 2007 will be SharePoint Workspace 2010.\u00a0 In the announcement they briefly talked about the improvement including: \u00a0make it easier to deploy and\u00a0better integration\/access with SharePoint content (or content from any server that implements the publicly documented protocols)\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not sure if\u00a0 the improvement will be that significant that we can compare the two products, but something tells me that someone is working long hours to make sure this wave does not become a tsunami.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have typically\u00a0focused our articles on Microsoft and related technologies.
