Microsoft Teams is not included in Microsoft 365
Microsoft has separated Teams into its own standalone licensed product, Teams Enterprise, ending its previous inclusion with the Office 365/Microsoft 365 suite of productivity tools. Microsoft made this change in response to concerns raised by the European Commission about the bundling of Teams with Microsoft 365 and Office 365.
Microsoft has unbundled Teams from its enterprise Microsoft 365 and Office 365 plans globally. You will no longer be able to purchase Office 365 E1, E3, E5 or Microsoft E3, and E5 suites with Teams included.
Q: When can existing customers remove Teams from their licenses?
A: Only during your renewal period, unless you choose to upgrade to a specific plan that excludes Teams.
Q: How do I know if I’m an existing customer?
A: If you had an active license with Teams included before April 1, 2024, then you are an existing customer.
You can purchase Teams licenses separately from Office 365/Microsoft 365 licenses.
Q: Can I add standalone Teams Enterprise seats now?
A: Yes—and there is no minimum for these add-ons
